Inconvenience Saves The World

We're all guilty of some sort of bad habit right? Biting our nails, leaving the bathroom light on, procrastinating, taking long showers, whatever it is we're human, it's normal. But with saying that, for some reason these bad habits are ever so commonly tossed aside in the midst of life's chaos for lack of improvement, and this cycle continues day in and day out, now on a small scale these things look harmless, but when you've got 7 billion people and counting, with all sorts of different bad habits, it becomes problematic in terms of impact on our earth. Collectively, we need to stop subconsciously passing on our problems to others with ignorance, thinking that someone else will take care of it, because they won't, this is our home and it's everyone's responsibility, equally, to keep this earth healthy.
But what can you do?
Well for starters, none of these things are going to be 'convenient' compared to what we're used to, and we need to accept that right here and now, because convenience is the exact reason why we are in the situation we are in right now, where naturally we don't truly know if our drinking water is safe, or if our air is clean enough, we don't know if our foods are pure, even when they're grown in the ground because of companies producing seeds with GMO's already in it! So what we can do is, start with ourselves, small acts of kindness towards our earth will go a long way.
When making changes in our lives, the best way to do that is to start small, that way we don't overwhelm ourselves with the change we are trying to promote in our lives.
Leave the tap off when brushing your teeth / washing hands.
Separate your garbage into it's proper bins (trash / recycling / paper).
Try to keep the lights off as long as possible during the day.
Set your thermostat to drop a few degrees when away for the day.
Don't litter. Ever. Just because something says 'biodegradable' does not mean it's true.
Walk to your destination, plus it's exercise-friendly!
Keep a weekly waste jar, collect all the packaging from things you don't necessarily know where they should be disposed of, then at the end of the week do a little research to find out the proper ways to dispose of it.
Meal prep, this saves time, money AND energy! (Talk about triple threat!).
Unplug things that aren't being used, you can always plug it back in later.
Before opening a window, make sure heating/cooling systems are turned off.
Now this may seem like a lot when you're not doing any of these things on the regular, but as I said, start small, pick one thing and stick with it until it becomes a habit, revisit this post every now and then and add more and more into your daily life, or if you're already a superstar environmentalist, this may not seem like very much if you're already doing all these things, but if we all did at least one of these things, our earth will thank us for it, and don't whine about how uncomfortable it's making you to do these things, imagine how uncomfortable our planet is right now…
